Carved from a single piece of Guijo, a hard wood from a Philippine timber tree and made in collaboration with a 2nd generation woodcarver from Pampanga. Taught by his father, he has been carving since he was 11, first working on furniture and now has found his passion in sculpture.
Multi-use. Heavy enough to be used as a bookend, made more special with a secret compartment at the back. The drawer is all carved out by hand.
Woodcarving is one of the longest existing arts in the Philippines, which some records say dates back to over 2000 years ago, a time when carvers had to use stones, shells and even the teeth or tusks of animals to shape wood.
No two pieces will be exactly the same. One piece ready to ship.
