A variation on the ‘Pasiking’, an indigenous backpack traditionally worn in the Mountain Province of the Philippines (Northern Luzon) by the Ifugao. The sharp corner updates an otherwise traditional shape. With flexible braided shoulder straps, a rectangular base and an easy to open v-cut slit at the back. Handmade using durable split rattan.
Smoked above a hearth and waxed to give it a dark patina and to strengthen, making it more resilient to breakage and bugs. Smoked baskets are seen to be of greater beauty and value, more so if they are “antique” or vintage. This size and shape is particularly hard to find. Only 1 piece.
A portion of proceeds go to Real Life Foundation, a non-profit, non-government organization providing educational assistance to underprivileged Filipino youth.
