A variation on the “Kupit” or “Koppit”, which was traditionally used for important personal goods by men. For centuries, the Igorot, or “mountain people” of the Luzon Cordilleras have been known to weave baskets for daily needs. Finely made using rattan. Sturdy. A rare find, only 1 piece.
Smoked above a hearth and waxed to give it a dark patina and to strengthen, making it more resilient to breakage and bugs. Smoked baskets are seen to be of greater beauty and value.
A portion of proceeds go to Real Life Foundation, a non-profit, non-government organization providing educational assistance to underprivileged Filipino youth.
